November has been a great month so far for Rowan University students, filled with Bus Trips, concerts, celebrities, comedians, and plenty of fun events every day. However, all good things must come to an end. The last event of the month takes place two days before my second favorite holiday, Thanksgiving.
On Tuesday, November 25th, Rowan University will be hosting a Battle of the Bands competition. The show starts at 6pm and ends at 12am, and will take place in the Student Center Pit. Come out and support your school’s top bands as they compete against eachother.
What’s I think is really cool about this competition, is that the winning band of the competition get’s to play their own show in the Student Center Pit, exactly one week after the Battle of the Bands competition. On Tuesday, December 2nd, is when the winning band will get the opportunity to play their own full show, which is an awesome prize. I highly recommend that any music lovers attend both events.
If you are a music lover like myself, this is a perfect combination. The first night of music, you get to watch numerous bands compete against eachother, and hear ton’s of different styles of music. The following week, you will get to see another concert of the best out of the bands that played the week before. The best part about it is that it’s free to all Rowan students. Definately an awesome event, and almost guaranteed to be great time.

The new very popular band among college students, “The Flobots”, are playing a concert at Rowan. The concert takes place on Saturday, November 8th, in the Student Center Pit. Tickets are free with your Rowan ID card, and the show starts at 9pm.
This is actually very impressive that Rowan was able to book the Flobots for a free concert. Recently, the Flobots had a concert at the “Electric Factory”, which is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the concert sold out extremely quick. The Flobots have a very unique style of music. They mix Rap and Hip Hop with rock for a very cool sound. So far this year, and as of right now, the Flobots are the biggest musical performance that Rowan has had, and will be hosting all semester.
It should be a very energetic and pumped up crowd at the concert as well, seeing as the Flobots hit single, “Handlebars” is one of the biggest songs on college campuses nation wide. I can almost guarantee that more than half of the students attending will be going strictly to hear that one song.
To sum everything up, pretty much one of the most popular college bands in America, with one of the top hit singles in America, is going to be playing a free concert at Rowan. Definately an awesome way to have a fun Saturday night.

Personally, Pink Floyd is one of my favorite bands of all time. It truly is disappointing that their guitarist, David Gilmour, and their bassist, Roger Waters, still can’t get along after all of these years. There was recent talk about a possible reunion tour, but Gilmour came out and said that there’s no way it’s going to happen, due to the fact that him and Waters still are not getting along. Also, the band’s keyboardist/pianist Richard Wright just recently passed away, and it truly is a shame to see a man like himself pass. Some considered it to be a miracle when the four band members reunited for one final showat “Live 8″, when they played at Hyde Park, in London, England, on July 2, 2005. It was the first time the four of the band members shared a stage together in 24 years! That was the last time that the four original band members will ever be on stage. Now, even though there’s no way that a night like that of Live 8 will ever occur again, Rowan University does one heck of a job to try to recreate the magic of Floyd’s legendary light shows. In the Edelman Planetarium, every Saturday night through November 22nd, at 8:30pm, there is a Pink Floyd laser showknown as “Laser Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon.” Tickets are only $5 for adults, and $3 for Rowan Students, Senior Citizens over the age of 65, and Children. Honestly, it was probably the best $5 that I have ever spent. The show is a light show that goes along with Floyd’s most well known album, “The Dark Side of the Moon”. I saw a Roger Waters concert back in the summer of 2006, and thought to myself that I would never see a light show anywhere close to as incredible as that ever again. However, this show proved me wrong. The lights were spectacular, and I truly could not believe my eyes the entire time. I highly recommend that anybody, Pink Floyd fan or not, to go see this show. It truly is one of the best light shows i’ve ever seen, and an awesome tribute to who I consider to be the greatest band of all time, Pink Floyd.

As all of you already know, October has come very quick, which unfortunately comes with cold weather and a lot of leaves everywhere. Not to worry though, because this first weekend of October should be a fantastic one for Rowan students. On Saturday, October 4th, we have what some would refer to as a “Double Whammy”. You can either take a day trip to Washington DC for only $5.00, or you can hang around campus and see the band “Jounce” in the Student Center Pit, for no cost at all. Jounce is a very interesting band for one reason and one reason only. Former Nickelodeon child star Dan (previously known as Danny) Tamberelli is a member of the band. I’m pretty sure every student on Rowan’s campus remembers his work from the hit Nickelodeon television shows “All That”, “Figure It Out”, and “The Adventures of Pete and Pete”. Dan plays the bass guitar for the band, and also chimes in with vocals. It should be a blast seeing him play live music, right here at Rowan. I highly recommend that anyone who was as big of a Nickelodeon fan as I was when I was a little kid, to go see this show. There’s no way anybody will leave disappointed. It’s Danny Tamberelli for crying out loud!
I sincerely thank you for your time.
Kev
